The Arts Awards was created to celebrate and support artists in Alberta. For years, applications and adjudication relied on paper forms and mail, a slow and resource-heavy process that limited accessibility across Alberta. To modernize, the organization built a custom .NET MVC Content Management System (CMS) that moved the entire experience online.
Artists can create accounts, upload digital portfolios, and receive instant confirmation of submissions. Judges gained a secure portal to review, score, and provide feedback in real time, while administrators benefited from automated workflows and centralized data management. The system’s technology stack combined .NET MVC with SQL Server, Entity Framework, and a responsive front end built with HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript. Secure authentication, integrated file handling, and real-time reporting ensured transparency and efficiency throughout the awards cycle.
The shift from paper-based mail to a fully online system revolutionized the program. Artists enjoyed greater accessibility, judges streamlined their evaluations, and administrators achieved new levels of efficiency. By leveraging a modern CMS, artsawards.ca became a model for how technology could empower the arts community, blending creativity with innovation to deliver a scalable and inclusive awards experience.
