ATB Adventurers League

Ever try teaching 200 bankers the concepts of Dungeons & Dragons in one day? That was the challenge behind Adventurers League, a team-building event created for a quarterly meeting focused on disruption in the digital industry.

We highlighted how two unlikely pioneers, Gary and Dave, created game mechanics that would eventually influence everything from modern apps to digital and brick and mortar banking. Concepts like experience points and leveling up didn’t start in tech, they started at a tabletop.

To bring it to life, we introduced ability scores with the classic tomato talk. Strength is the ability to crush a tomato, dexterity is the ability to dodge a tomato, constitution is the ability to eat a bad tomato, intelligence is knowing a tomato is a fruit, wisdom is knowing not to put it in a fruit salad, and charisma is convincing someone to enjoy your tomato salad anyway.

Team members built their own character sheets, rolled dice to determine their stats, and teamed up for a fast paced PvP ATB Adventurers League tournament. The final battle unfolded on a grand stage with full lighting, sound, and energetic play-by-play commentary.

What began as a quarterly business meeting turned into an all-out adventure, proving that disruption often comes from unexpected places, and sometimes all it takes is a 20 sided die to spark imagination and innovation.
